I'm looking for a very long time for a good resource for pill punch dies.
I know Alibaba etc got them but the import to Europe and customs are my problem.

My plan was to print just the tip with the logo on one or maybe two sides of the punch dies.

I already got dies without logo, so if there is a material which 3d printable and robust enough for a few docents of prints, it would be enough.
Because of the size/price of the print, changing a logo tip after a few presses won't be a problem.

Has anybody experience with 3d printers and could tell me if that idea could work?

Beeing able to produce a pill press with legal/available parts and a 3d printer would be a cool idea, which goes with the spirit of this forum!

A wolf-kitchner ( spelling is bad) will knock that beta-ketone right off there making bk-mdma into mdma

A tablet press should be made of metal because it needs strong parts to print and a lot of force to form a tablet. The smallest presses weigh from 100 kg. I don't think that you can make such a device on a home 3D printer from plastic. If you really need to print a small number of tablets, then the best solution is an encapsulator. Or you can buy a tablet press from China. Or according to the drawings, make a press on a CNC milling machine.

I would only print the parts that have the design on it. So just the dies and keep them as flat as possible. The rest shopuld be metal.

I was interested if this is feasable and test-printed some dies. They are working perfectly. I printed them using a 0.2mm nozzle on an fdm-printer. I think, for like testing out designs or low-quantity, these are perfect.

Wow that sounds great!!
My plan was exactly the same, did you print the whole stamp which is clamped into the press?

Could u please show us a few pictures?

That would be super interesting, because I own a pill press without stamps, so this would be a total game changer for me to finally get it to working again!!!

I am sorry to answer late.
This is what I printed:
VcPXQ0d8VA

I guess you would only use the two die-punches on the left. You could even make them the same hight, as you would use a metal punch ontop of the plastic die. I would not print the whole thing to clamp in, just the part facing the powder and maybe glue it to the metal punch so that it barely holds on and can be changed later. The die-guide (part on the far right) would also be metal.

As far as the design goes, I would keep it as flat as possible. What this means, the resulting pills wouldnt be like convex but rather flat. You could chat a bit by adding chamfers facing inwards, like I did (ring around the dies). The logo should be mirrored of course.

Regarding printing, I used a 0.2mm nozzle and printed with 100% infill.

So with all of that said, its a fairly simple and fast process. I would definetely try this out for a few special pills.

Thank you :) I am using a bambulab a1 mini. The results are phenomenal and its only 200 $. I would argue they make the best fdm printers currently. But be careful, the printers phone home if not setup in LAN-only mode.

My plan is to buy the same, would you suggest up to the normal big A1 for printing bigger parts? The printing plate is pretty small and I'm not sure if I will have to print some bigger parts (maybe for the press) as well.

Maybe thread with potential printable equipment would be very cool! Maybe someone can start this thread.

Yes if you think about printing bigger parts, I would go for the bigger one. Also go ahead and grab some additional nozzles, like the 0.2mm (0.4mm is standard) and maybe 0.6/0.8mm to speed up bigger parts. Thy are 10$ each.

If you need help with printing, feel free to contact me :)

Yes a thread for printable stuff would be awesome. I could also think of using prints to hide something inside, as you can add voids inside, have the printer stop and contionue without a visible seam.

U could make a pill press our if 3d printed parts. But u would need certain types of filament, and the design would have to be optimised for both 3d printing in mind and the pressure exerted. U would just need thicker parts. I've made 3d printed parts that take over 1 kg of force on the X and y direction before they snap. U could easily reach tons if u optimise the way it's printed and thickness.

Anything wity 3d printing the first draft always take long to make

My plan was to start with a Bambu lab printer and 3d models which already exist.
