Yes, for example Iron chloride (FeCl3) and zinc chloride (ZnCl3) but the reaction will happen at a slower rate compared to using aluminium chloride.

Yes they are both anhydrous and from the two iron (iii) chloride (FeCl3) would work the best
in this synthesis I only have a heater balloon mixer can I not use a water bath and how many degrees should not exceed when we add propinol chloride
This synthesis is AlCl3.6H2O, can I use this as a catalyst?

I'm pretty sure it has to be anhydrous aluminum chloride.
No water, whatsoever. Issue is you can't dry aluminum chloride by heating it, iirc.
