i'm having trouble getting rid of all traces of activated carbon from the P2NP crystals even with vacuum filtration using acetone and/or the solvent it was dissolved in.
can anyone tell me how i can completely remove any activated carbon from the P2NP crystals?
i tried the flocculant. i first dissolved the P2NP in methanol, then added the flocculant in an amount equal to the amount of P2NP i had. i stirred it for 1 hour at around 120C, then quickly poured it into a beaker and put in the freezer. after taking it out the next day it was a clear dark greenish solution with nothing that crystalized, but there was a tiny bit of black sediment on the bottom. (i was using a tiny amount of P2NP of about 100mg).
i think i'll have to give the carbon step a miss if i can't remove all traces of it.
The point of the flocullant is to aglomerate the particles so you can filter them.
Also youre suposed to use activated charcoal in chunks, not powder.
But you are right, start fresh better.
Sorry for my ignorance, why do you want to recrystallize the P2NP crystals? so low purity do yours have? I have spoken with a Chinese supplier on Alibaba, which offers 99% purity.
I think you did the chemical synthesis of P2NP yourself.
thank you!!
no, it's just recommended to do if you're going on to do an amphetamine synthesis with it, because the yield of the amphetamine is apparently highly dependent on the purity of the P2NP crystals, so re-crystallization is recommended.
also can anyone recommend on how to get rid of the activated carbon stains on the inside of my buchner funnel? i tried sodium hydroxide and the cleaning solution i found on BB that's made from sodium hydroxide and ethyl alcohol but nothing works
Do you have such small metal balls, about 50 pieces, which are also used for wine carafes? So you achieve a mechanical cleaning by friction, should the brush not be enough.
And take 35% HCL plus ethanol, ratio 1:3 and give the whole time to act, so far I got everything dissolved.
yes but the stains are on the walls between the filter plate and the bottom hose adapter so there's no way to physically reach it. i haven't used the hcl solution before so thanks for that. i'll try it and see.
