Hello, I was searching random stuff on Wikipedia and along the way I had an idea for a potential cathinone synth from P2NP. First by hydrating the double bond on the carbon attached to the phenyl group with water and sulfuric acid, then oxidizing the secondary alcohol that results (hopefully) using KMnO4 or some such, and lastly selectively reducing the nitro group to an amine with Sn + HCl or Zn + HCl.
So, first is it even worth it? This synth seems to use some (relatively) common chemicals, but I have no experience with cathinone so I don't know whether it kicks or is just something like caffeine, even though wikipedia does say it stimulates dopamine production.
Second, can this even work? Like even on a theoretical level? Does this reaction or something similar already exist and has anyone tried it ?
