Toluene plus hexanoyl chloride in presence of at least 1 m.e.q. Of AlCl3 or BF3/Et2O (rare earns and lanthanides/actinides triflates [salts of trifluoromethanesulfonic acid] Yttrium, Lanthanum, Ruthenium, Rhodium, Cerium) affords F-C acyl 4-Me product that is halogenated with element and peroxide in benzene then isolated and purified to crystals or further processed as solution in the next step where methylamine in large excess replaces the halide and also forms the hydrohalide of the p-tolyl beta oxo alpha n-butan alpha methylamine
