Starting with N-Carbethoxy-4-piperidone (29976-53-2) am I along the right track of getting the desired HCL salt?
an Acid base hydrolysis is the appropriate way to remove the N-Carbethoxy from the desired product right?
100ml of cas 29976-53-2, 100ml H2O and 100ml 37% hydrochloric acid is refluxed at 110c for 4hrs
Once complete the RM is moved to a sep funnel and 2 Layers appear like the image below, the bottom layer is isolated in a beaker ready for the next process.

Acetone is added at a 1:4 ratio and HCL gas is gassed into the mixture down to 6.3?
Whats the correct process?
