Tell us this, what are you expecting it to do? Sodium bicarbonate can act as an acid or a base depending on the situation. If you already have base cocaine, and you are planning to coordinate it to the salt, I don't see a benefit to alkaline solution. But I don't know everything

Looks to me like you are converting your base cocaine into cocaine carbonic acid, which is going to stop you from making it a HCl salt, if that is what you are trying to do ( make cocaine HCl) yes, the baking soda is fucking it up. Sodium bicarbonate dissociates into Na+ and Hco2-. HCo2- attaches to the H+ of your cocaine lewis acid and occupies it so Cl- can't

SHHIIITT. I DIDN'T REALIZE this is in methcathiones. You can't delete comments so I'll just sit here looking like an asshole for eternity. The answer is probably still yes.

I read in some sources that sodium carbonate could be added to the water + freebase solution in case of meth and mdma freebase purification by ether or DCM. Sodium carbonate reduces the solubility of water and helps to separate the free base.
But I'm completely zero in chemistry, even being a good engineer, se better to get a confirmation from someone more experienced.
