Preparation of 2b4mp precursor for Mephedrone (two different ways)

To make some Mephedrone, you will first need 2b4mp.
We'll show you how to make 2b4mp at home with no hassle!
This is the first way how to cook 2b4mp, the second way is coming soon.

Required reagents:

1. 4-methylpropiophenone
2. Hydrogen bromide 46-48%
3. Hydrogen peroxide 37%
4. Sodium bicarbonate (baking soda)

• This synthesis can be done in jars or glasses.
• You can use a long 1ml syringe for mixing.

Step 1
Pour 100 ml of 4-methylpropiophenone into a glass and add 80 ml of hydrogen bromide.

Step 2
Use a syringe to dispense 36 ml* (this may be divided into portions) of hydrogen peroxide. Attach a tube to the syringe long enough to inject the hydrogen peroxide into the bottom of the glass.

Step 3
This step requires dexterity. With one hand, add the hydrogen peroxide drop by drop with the syringe. With the other hand, stir the mixture. During the reaction, you will see the mixture begin to heat up. Each addition of hydrogen peroxide should give an indication. At first the mixture will be brown and after a while it will discolor. After the next batch has reacted and you have seen a reaction and discoloration, add the next batch of hydrogen peroxide. Continue until all the hydrogen peroxide is used up or the mixture stops discoloring.
Stir the mixture well and proceed to the next step.

Step 4
Pour 250ml of cold water into the glass and stir well, you can see crystallization. Leave the mixture for one hour to make sure all the sediment has fallen out.

Step 5
Filter the resulting 2b4mp crystals through a loose cloth. Crystals are large and well filtered. Be careful, the crystals are very caustic and emit an irritating tear gas. Always wear gloves and work in a ventilated area. A mask and safety glasses are recommended.

Step 6
2b4mp must be rinsed. Prepare a solution by dissolving 20 grams of sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) in 250 ml of water in a glass. Add the obtained 2b4mp to the solution and stir well. If there are lumps, break them. Drain the solution from the glass through a loose cloth, leaving the crystals in the glass. Add 250 ml of cold water. Stir well once more and filter off the crystals.

Step 7
b4mp crystals should be dried in the air, possibly under a fan, in a non-residential space with a temperature not exceeding 20ºC, or you can under air conditioning. Don't forget that crystals are caustic and emit a tear-inducing gas, and in a warm room this effect is amplified.
After drying, 2b4mp is hermetically packaged in multi-layer plastic wrap or bags. Store in a cool place.

but we want to offer you another way to synthesize 2b4mp for Mephedrone.

Bromination with elemental bromine in glacial acetic acid ​

Reagents:

1. 4-Methylpropiophenone
2. Bromine
3. Glacial Acetic Acid (GAA)

This synthesis can be performed in a thick-walled 1L thermo glass bottle or plastic bottle with a screw cap and a wide neck.
It will be very difficult to get the 2b4mp crystals out through the narrow throat later. Fill the bottle 1/2 full or the cap will not hold.

1) Pour 100g of 4-methylpropiophenone into a jar and add 300ml of glacial acetic acid (GAA) to it.

2) Then you weigh 100g of bromine in a glass beaker. It is necessary to wear gloves to work with bromine, it does not wash off! If it gets on anything, it will have to be thrown out. In addition, bromine vaporizes brown gas, always keep the beaker covered with a piece of paper.

3) The next step will require dexterity. Carefully pour the bromine into the bottle and start stirring the bottle in a circular motion. But don't shake it in any way! You can lightly heat the mixture in a bowl of warm water. You will definitely notice the beginning of the reaction, the mixture in the bottle will start to heat up and the bottle will fill with gas. An indication will occur. The color will change from brown to yellow. In order not to let the reaction get out of hand, it is recommended that the bottle be swept into a bowl of cold water after the indication.
Stir the contents of the bottle vigorously every 1 to 2 minutes for 30 minutes.

4) Then pour 500ml of cold water into the bottle and stir the mixture well, you can observe crystallization. To be sure that all the sediment fell out, leave the mixture for an hour in a bowl of cold water. Next, through a loose cloth, drain the liquid from the bottle so that the crystals remain in the bottle.

5) The resulting 2b4mp crystals in the bottle should be washed. To do this, prepare a solution of 40g of sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) dissolved in 500ml of water in a jar. Pour the baking soda solution into the bottle with the obtained 2b4mp, close the bottle with the lid and shake well for 5-10 minutes. Then drain the liquid from the bottle again through a loose cloth. Rinse again with 500ml of water and drain again.

6) The next thing is to take the crystals out of the bottle. If you had a plastic bottle, you turn it upside down, cut off the bottom, and pour out the crystals to dry.

7) 2b4mp crystals should be dried in the air, possibly under a fan, in a non-residential room with a temperature not exceeding 20ºC, you can under air conditioning. Don't forget that crystals are caustic and exude a tear irritant gas, in a warm room this effect is amplified. After drying 2b4mp hermetically packed in multi-layer film or bags. Store in a cool place.

There is other ways to synthetise it but Friedel-Crafts seems to be the simplest.
