#Amphetamine is one of the most popular synthetic drug and is quite easy to make at home in a kitchen or garage. Let's calculate how much one kg of this substance will cost in terms of reagent costs, provided that amphetamine is obtained by Al/Hg #P2NP reduction.
The reagent costs were taken from #BB_Listings (#BB_Forum).
1 kg 1-Phenyl-2-nitropropene (#P2NP); - 250€
10 kg Isopropyl alcohol (IPA); - 90 Euro (5 l - 45 €)
5 kg Glacial acetic acid (AcOH); - 75 Euro (1L - 15 €)
1.2 kg Aluminum (pre-cut Al foil sheets); - 18 €
10 g Mercury (II) nitrate (Hg(NO3)2); - 65 €
5 kg Sodium hydroxide (NaOH); - 45 € ( Price: from 1 Kg/€9.00)
5 kg Acetone; - 16 € (from Leroy Merlin hardware store)
200 g Sulfuric acid (H2SO4); - 18 € (1000 mL - 89 €)
After reagents costing, we get the 580 € per 1 kg #amphetamine cost.
We can get approximately ~700 g of amphetamine sulphate from 1 kg #P2NP. Thus, the amphetamine sulphate 1 kg cost is about ~800 €.
These calculations didn't take into account such consumables as syringes, pH paper, filter paper, glassware detergents, gloves and etc.
The necessary reagents list is calculated for only 1 kg #P2NP.
In case of a tenfold increase in the purchased reagents amount, the synthesis cost can be reduced by 50%.
Laboratories, that buy metric tons of synthesis reagents and use industrial equipment, reduce the #amphetamine sulphate cost to about 150 € per 1 kg.
