I'm watching some of the videos here, and the amalgam reduction to meth stuck out to me for producing an incredibly small amount of product while requiring large glassware.
I'm wondering if there is anything that can be done to make more product producable from the same size vessels. For this reaction specifically, the amalgam reduction to secondary amines, whether mdma or meth
For example, what is p2p's solubility in various alcohols? Looking at methanol and ethanol specifically. Could the max amount of p2p be dissolved in ethanol, increasing the amount produced?
What about keeping the reaction colder? I know it is a hot reaction, and maybe having a very large icebath means one could run the reaction with more reactants and not get an exothermic.
Just trying out ideas, as in the video, a 5 liter for 50 grams in unacceptable in my mind.
