What is the legal status in Canada? In the US they are not controlled at all. I've cultivated many species and strains of mushrooms and I only bought 1 during of spores 1 time. It was Atantis #7, which I think probably was reabsorbed into Mexicana since they are the same. I got free ones in giveaways contests and I traded a lot of them. You just have to participate in the mushroom forums and after a short while people will just give or trade them to you. You prices from those places us Ludacris. 15 years ago I sold prints to Workman for $5/PC and he would turn that into 5-10 syringes that were $18/PC at the time

they're legal here for spores, and there are some shroom dispensaries near the city I live in, but they don't sell spores
It IS possible to grow mushrooms from dryed mushrooms. All you need is some sterile swabs and some sterile water. You dip the swab in the water and rub it on the lamellae (gills) and you will pick up plenty of spores. It only takes 2 of a compatible mating type. Mating type is analogous to sex, but mushrooms have up to 50 mating types. Men women attack helicopters cross dressers bulldozers and 45 more. This is the only way to get spores from some strains like the penis envy line. The gills are so tightly packed spores can't escape and they don't produce a sporeprint.
Another method I've had success with is cutting a piece of lamellar material and putting it on a supplemented agar petri dish. I built this laminar flow hood for right at $200 and it took me from struggling to grow anything to being able to clone any mushroom I found and bring it into cultivation. If you want to grow mushrooms in any serious capacity, you need this. I looked for a long time to build this for $200, but you could build this tomorrow for $400

Here are some Psilocybe cubensis mushrooms. Malabars and albino A+'s. These pics are over 10 years old. I'm not a huge fan of psychedelic mushrooms personally, but to each their own

It is what people call a laminar flow hood. It is the opposite of a fume hood. Instead of sucking poisonous gas and putrid chemical smells, it blows air at you. Basically it is a house furnace blower blowing air through a genuine 12" thick HEPA filter. The kind used in nuclear power plants to keep people from breathing radioactive dust. This one filters 99.7% of particles 0.3 microns in size but works better on smaller or larger particles.Thats basically every biological entity besides a virus. So it blows out this ultra clean stream of air and that air knocks mold spores bacterial spores ECT. Away. So long as you can stick to an aseptic protocol contaminated grows are a thing of the past
