All calculations for 1 kilogram of 4-Methylpropiophenone.

All reagents are extremely cooled.
Toluene (657)grams is added to the flask in an ice bath , aluminum chloride(1043) grams, mixed for 10 minutes, then propionyl chloride (700)grams is dug in using a dividing funnelgram 40 minutes.
After digging in , the reaction mass is removed from the ice bath and remains at room temperature for 1 hour to mix .

We prepare a mixture of ice in a laboratory beaker (3700)grams and (142)grams of 36% hydrochloric acid.
As a result, we have 2 layers divided on the dividing funnel we need the bottom one .
By distillation , we drive away excess toluene at a temperature of 110 degrees . we change the receiver flask to a clean vessel, connect the vacuum pump and drive away our pure 4-Methylpropiophenone.

PS: I do not pretend to 100 percent reliability and correctness of this method. I am not a specialist in chemistry myself, but due to the lack of other methods, I use this recipe. The method has been tested in practice, the result is the product we need.
I will be glad to have an alternative synthesis from professionals

Chemical brutto formules for reagents:
aluminiminium chloride - AlCl
propionyl chloride - C3H5OCl
Toluene - C7H8O
4-Methylpropiophenone - C10H12O

Chemical reaction: C7H8 + C3H5OCl = C10H12O + HCl

Wait what happened here to the previous reaction mixture? Did you put it in the beaker, added some ice and 142 g of hydrochloric acid which lead to layer separation? Please elaborate.

Also if possible what temperature and pressure did you vacuum distill your 4'-Methylpropiophenone at?

Ideally what is the source of this reaction? It might be helpful for us to look into the original synthesis as well.

I have not yet tried this synthesis but I probably will out of curiosity. I'm always up for new ways to make any interesting chemical.

Here is an excerpt from the hive, from a hive member that did these synths (starting with 4-methylmethcathinone from toluene and propionyl chloride, and 2 subsequent steps culminating in the synthesis of 4-methylmethcathinone) and recorded the results!
