How to turn this into mdp2p?

I presume a methylenation reaction similar to the ones that can turn vanillin into piperonal, but I'm just not sure.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

That's what I figured was the case. Probably only good for small scale, as I was under the impression for catechol and the like you need high solvent volume, to prevent side reactions
