Soap, in its real sense, is fatty acids in oils that have been saponified (reacted )with NaOH (bar soap) or KOH (liquid soap). Nowadays a lot of stuff is detergents etc not actual soap.

We are using 113g of NaOH in 253g H2O.

We are using almond oil, 896g. So..

The NaOH was allowed to cool for 15 min to approx 149f/65c.
A one neck ceramic oval flask, aka a crock pot, was charged with 896g almond oil and placed on low, and allowed to warm up.

When the oil warmed up (on low on crock pot settings) and the NaOH solution cooled down, we did a couple dabs, and got back to the experiment.

When they were close to the same temp, 122f the solutions were mixed together in the oval flask

Using the overhead handheld mechanical stirrer, aka emulsion blender, the two solutions were mixed in short rapid bursts, until it becomes creamy, and go a little while longer until you are sure it is mixed.

After this, put saran wrap on that muthafucka so no water evaporates, and allow the reaction to take place.

See how it looks creamy, but opaque? As the reaction takes place, it gets around the side looking more translucent.

After 50 min, and about 160-180 (different places different temps using infrared thermometer) it was stirred.

It was mixed and 10 min later it was 80% finished. It was stirred again and heat turned off. In no time after the last stir the reaction was complete, temp 190-210f. Totally gelled.

New saran wrap placed on oval flask, lol, and close to an hour passed before temps dropped below 180, I think it was 171f when I added 20ml of lavender oil and 2ml D-limonene.

Poured dried lavender flowers on the bottom of the mold and poured the soap mix into the mold and used lavender flowers on top...let it sit for 24h...I think it looks best on the bottom, what do you think?

This is called hot process soapmaking. Look it up .
The heat from the crockpot speeds the reaction up, and after 24h it should be ready.

If you want to make your own, you need oil or a couple kinds of oil, NaOH, water, and scents...

Search for "lye calculator for soapmaking" in order to find the amount of lye needed to saponify the oils you want to use, and always go for 7-10% superfat, which means more than enough oils for the lye

Update: the soap isn't done after 24h. It should be, but it still has a slightly slick feel after washing, which I believe to be unreacted NaOH
