Hey guys,

Has anyone made their own NBS?
Is it as simple as making an aqueous solution of succinimide, making it slightly basic and introducing bromine drop by drop?

I did try an electrophilic substitution reaction on 2c-h and I’m having issues getting anything out.

I think I messed up by adding the bromine to the 2c-h under ice (forgetting how easily GAA freezes!), I therefore figured I could try brominating succinimide instead.
What do you think?

Bro I only have NBS and no bromine around here, hence I feel somewhat offended because I thought NBS isn't that great.

Huh why is that offensive??
I didn’t find bromine that great haha which is why I figured I would make some NBS…

Br2 worked but I got pretty rubbish yields and I hated cracking open the vial I had because it’s scary and the amps I have, have no ‘top’ to grab on to in order to open it.

I therefore figured I would make some NBS using NaBr and H2O2.

Oh and yeh I did get product out of my first attempt but the yield was shit and also it was just annoying dealing with bromine.

Also I had some weird solubility issue where getting the product back out of GAA was incredibly annoying and it just wouldn’t crash out - maybe to do with the fact I was using the sulfate salt and I don’t think iv seen anyone else use sulfate.

Anyway, I ended up just freebasing it and re-salting.

It’s more that I was thinking, if I can make some NBS, then I could surely also make some NIS, which is likely to make a 2c-I synthesis easier and quicker.
